Since 2015, I have explored how live looping can expand the creative possibilities for string players in performance, arranging, composition, improvisation, and teaching.
Over time, I have become convinced that live looping is one of the most powerful creative tools available to 21st-century string musicians. It opens pathways for developing technique, exploring new genres, building confidence in improvisation, creating original arrangements, and deepening artistic practice.
Depending on the setting, I use a Sheeran Looper X, Boss RC-600, or Boss RC-30 to create original music and live arrangements of cover songs. As an improvising musician, I blend elements of pop, fiddling, cinematic music, worship, and modern jazz, layering textures in real time to build dynamic live performances. My live looping work has led to solo performances around Nashville and in cities including San Francisco and Dallas.
Beyond solo performance, I have also incorporated live looping into collaborative and band settings, using ambient textures, drones, and layered sounds while touring with Benjamin William Hastings.
In 2023, I released Cello Sessions (Live Looping Collection), a live solo recording project captured using a Boss RC-30 and UAD plugins through my Apollo Twin X interface, available on all major streaming platforms.
Beyond performance, I integrate live looping into teaching across a wide range of settings, from K–8 classrooms and high school clinics to college workshops and private lessons. Looping has transformed my approach to music education, helping students engage more creatively through improvisation, rhythm, listening, arranging, and collaboration.
After completing my cello performance degree at UCLA, studying under Antonio Lysy, I earned my Master of Music in Commercial Music at Belmont University. There, I studied with Tracy Silverman and Dr. Bruce Dudley, presenting a lecture recital and publishing my thesis Creative Practice for Classical String Players with Live Looping.
